We are a non-profit that gives tangible support to nannies in times of need.
Who We Are
The Nanny Relief Fund is a lifeline for nannies across the United States who are facing unexpected financial hardship. Nannies often lack access to traditional resources like unemployment benefits or paid sick leave, making them particularly vulnerable in times of crisis. Because nannying is such an isolating profession, nannies often also lack community resources or information when things go wrong. This vital resource steps in to provide financial assistance for a wide range of challenges, including:
Natural disasters: When fires, hurricanes, or other disasters strike, nannies have lost income and housing and face significant expenses.
Medical emergencies: Unexpected illnesses and injuries can lead to overwhelming medical bills.
Precarious employment: Many families choose to pay nannies "under the table" or as independent contractors, leaving them with limited legal protection and financial security.
The Nanny Relief Fund is essential because it recognizes the crucial role nannies play in our society and provides a much-needed safety net for these dedicated caregivers. By offering financial support and resources, the fund helps ensure that nannies can weather life's storms and continue to provide loving care to the families they serve.
Where We Started
In late March of 2020, Rachael L. Lubin began seeing more and more people on her social media platforms lose their jobs and their incomes and become fearful of their immediate financial futures. She decided as long as she was still fully employed and the COVID-19 crisis kept so many people out of
work, she would donate her Monday paycheck to those in need. On March 30th, using the song "Today 4 U" from the Broadway musical Rent as background, she posted a video on social media asking people to contact her if they had an urgent need for a small, one-time gift.
The following week, Rachael noticed a tremendous amount of nannies had been using their paid time off and sick leave to adhere to social distancing rules, additionally, many were losing their jobs when their PTO ran out. It was then that she realized this crisis would affect nannies in a huge way for the foreseeable future. That day, she geared the peer-to-peer giving towards the whole nanny community. Amazingly, after seeing Rachael's initial post, many nannies were inspired to join her in donating a portion of their own weekly income to support out-of-work nannies. Meanwhile, other amazing humans were also taking notice of Rachael's altruistic efforts. Within 48 hours, a core team of powerhouse women in the nanny industry, advisors, attorneys, and other experts came together and were able to collectively birth Nanny Relief Fund less than a month later.
